Night Calls. Arrivarono gli anni ‘90 e Joe lo gridò a gran voce. All’età di 47 anni portò alle nostre orecchie questo strepitoso album che segnò un cambiamento, la fine e l’inizio di qualcosa. Sonorità, produttività e manager, ovvero Roger Davies, muteranno dopo questo album. Quattro produttori in questo strepitoso progetto registrato presso l’A&M Studios a Hollywood, il The Village Recorder a Los Angeles, il Rumbo Recorders di Los Angeles e il Metropolis Mastering di Londra. Uscì in tre versioni, con tracklist diverse e con tre copertine sempre differenti. Quella sopra esposta è la lista di brani della prima versione, uscita in Europa il 7 ottobre 1991, aggiungendo quelli presenti nelle diverse edizioni. L'album non sarebbe apparso negli Stati Uniti, Canada, Australia o Nuova Zelanda fino a quasi un anno dopo e, quando finalmente lo fece, presentò una copertina diversa e una tracklist notevolmente modificata. “Night Calls” deve essere stato l'album di Joe Cocker con il programma di uscita mondiale più confuso di sempre. Ottenne buoni risultati in Europa nel 1991, continuando il successo che Joe aveva avuto negli anni '80. Fu uno dei primi cinque successi in Austria e Svizzera e raggiunse il sesto posto in Germania. Arrivò tra i primi 20 nei Paesi Bassi e in Norvegia e fu tra i primi 30 in Svezia. Nel 1998 uscì un’ulteriore versione dell’album in versione DTS, con una tracklist ancora diversa dalle tre precedenti rilasciate. Anche in questo progetto, troviamo il pianista Chris Stainton.
